So this function is, by design, limited to a single container field at a time. So although you can perform an SQL query that selects multiple container fields at once, writing them to a container field doesn't make sense, and writing to disk becomes complex when matched with a need to specific all the paths and filenames. Set this to false when retrieving a single container field.Ĭode Examples: the new asText only allows you to return a single file. The BaseElements plug-in has provided us with the functionality we needed that was missing in the FileMaker platform, but as a plug-in was required it did have a number of disadvantages: FileMaker Go does not support plug-ins (you can now use the iOS SDK). 4.2 ) : this is True by default as the SQL returns data from fields as text. 4.2 : return container/binary data in addition to text (new asText parameter) and outputPath parameter added. 1.3 : added optional database parameter to allow operations on databases other than the current one. Set this to false when retrieving a single container field.outputPath( optional, added in 4.2 ) : Allows you to write the result of the SQL query to disk. databaseName : allows you to specify an open database other than the current one.asText( optional, added in 4.2 ) : this is True by default as the SQL returns data from fields as text. rowSeparator : the row separator for the output data - single characters only. columnSeparator : the column separator for the output data - single characters only. Performs SQL commands on the tables inside FileMaker. This is the best starting point for looking at any solution, you can jump to a list of the items you want to look at with one click.BE_FileMakerSQL BE_FileMakerSQL(sqlStatement ) The counts for each item can be clicked on to go to the list of those items. This is the main starting point for any solution. There is no need to create new records in BaseElements as they're all created via import, so this is a convenient shortcut. The New Window function is such a useful way of keeping a found set for later, it's been mapped to the Command-N keyboard shortcut. The history button shows you the last 10 places in it's log, so you can go to any one of them directly. ![]() The syntax is like this: BEExportFieldContents ( field outputPath ) Where the ‘field’ parameter is the container field and the ‘outputPath’ is where you want the file to end up. If you manually choose a layout from the layouts menu it isn't included in the back history. This script can be run in the client, or via a schedule on FileMaker Server or via the Perform Script on Server script step. This is a scripted back process, so it records only when you navigate via a button inside the UI. Once you link somewhere though, the forward is cleared out, in much the same way that a web browser would. If you've gone backwards, you can then also track back forwards. It doesn't remember your found set or sort order though, so be aware if you go back to a record that isn't in the found set you will alter the found set to include it. The back and forward will remember the layout, tabs and record that you were on previously. ![]() The back and forward is to track your history in BaseElements and to be able to back track to a previous layout and record. The buttons are the Back, History, and Forward buttons respectively. You can then copy the layout objects, go into BaseElements and have it convert it to themed objects and paste it back into your solution. The find interface isn't modified at all, you can do regular finds as well as constrain or extend, and because you have field access, you can right click for "Find Matching Records" as well as context dependent sorting. BaseElements Next will be able to take your existing list of Objects and create a Theme from them by consolidating all of the same matching object styles. Switch back your old window and use the back and forward buttons to go back to old layouts. You can then open a new window, and keep that found set for later. A sample use case might be to go to a list of related items, which automatically switches to list view. Baseelements themes filemaker windows#We've stuck with well known FileMaker conventions where possible and tried to use as many native user interface controls and methods.Ī couple of basic tips : First it's just FileMaker, so you can create new windows and switch between form and list at will. BaseElements is designed to be familiar to anyone who is a FileMaker Developer. ![]()
